Just picked up a new toy to work on for next season....
1962 Chevy II vintage match racer. Dug out of barn after over 20 years. Always wanted one of these little Novas to play with. Damn fool last owner removed the straight axle and put stock front end back on it. We'll see if the budget allows to put it back by spring. Judging by all the old NHRA member stickers on it I'm hoping it raced ESTA in the old days. Will post pics asap and hopefully one of the history buffs can place it. It's a white 2 door post with a black vinyl top, radiused wheel wells and snorkel hood. Want to freshen it up without changing the look any more than necessary. 331 didn't get hurt in the accident at Skyview and should be period correct with tunnel ram and twin 660's. Car has glide now==but definately thinking 4 speed!! Not expecting a rocket ship here--just old school and fun!! Jim. |

No doubt on the wheels. Rears that came on car were shot and we tossed the Keystones on for mock-up size. Those are 29x9 slicks and seem to fit well. I did get both fronts and will try to match them up with rears. Has 9" rear with mono-leaves and slapper bars. I'm thinking I have a ladder link kit gathering dust and use floating spring mounts to keep the leaf springs. Cage is cool and solid but questionable as to legality. As said-not expecting a rocket, but want to be legal to run high 10's if it ends up that quick. Best ever et with combo I will be using was 10.82 in all steel 78 Malibu w/single 750 holley. Plan to use my tunnel ram twin 660 combo for looks more than additional speed. Have good race glide or TH400 but really want to go stick. We'll see........ |

What wheels were on the back?
If they were the slotted aluminums, you can bring them back to life pretty easy.
Medium Rubbing compound on a "powerball", then toss that powerball to the side. You'll never get the course stuff out.
Use finer compounds, then Mothers on powerballs. |

| Just 1 more slot came with the car. I've been looking on the net at old pics and may run chrome reverse on rear with the slot fronts. Lots of those cars didn't appear to run matching sets. Previous owner had chunk out and says 5.57 gearset. No problem for 331 on the 1/8 but can't run 1/4 with that!! Malibu used 4.88 for 1/4 and 5.38 for 1/8. Planning on having plates for occasional street play-is there an AFFORDABLE 5 speed that I could use to drop the final drive?? These damn projects always start out cheap-AND THEN!! LOL |
